It gives me great pleasure to launch the Biosafety News a publication of the National Biosafety Authority (NBA). The e-newsletter aims at enhancing stakeholder communication, collaboration and to foster relationships with our clients.

We recently launched our corporate instruments which included the logo, Service Charter and the Strategic Plan 2011-2015. Our logo stands for “Excellence in regulation of Biosafety in Biotechnology” and this is our commitment.

ISO Certification Imminent In a bid to enhance services to clients, the Authority has decided to operate within international standard guidelines by working towards attaining International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certification.The ISO certification process started in earnest in mid 2012 with general staff sensitization workshops and internal auditors training. The quality management system was established through process mapping of the Authority’s activities and determining and developing the documentation required.++Read More

Zambia and South Sudan benchmark with NBA The Zambian government dispatched a group of scientists, journalists and university lecturers to National Biosafety Authority (NBA) offices in Nairobi. The delegation was drawn from Zambia Agricultural Research Institute (ZARI), National Biosafety Authority of Zambia, University of Zambia, Times of Zambia, Cotton Development Trust,National Agricultural Information Service and National Institute for Scientific and Industrial Research. “We decided to benchmark with NBA Kenya because they have made significant progress in regulating biosafety,”said Dr Sumani, CEO NBA Zambia.++Read More

NBA hosts the 1st Annual National Biosafety Conference National Biosafety Authority hosted the conference from 6-9 August, 2012. The conference that will be held annually was characterized by two days pre-conference courses and two days of presentations,keynote addresses,plenary sessions on topical biosafety matters and recognition awards to biosafety professionals whose exceptional performance and scientific breakthroughs have made profound impact in our society.++Read More

NBA showcases its activities at international shows The Mombasa international show and Nairobi international trade fair saw NBA staff showcase the Authority’s activities. With the theme ‘Enhancing Technology in Agriculture and Industry for Food Security and National Growth’, NBA would assure the public of safety of genetically modified organisms(GMOs). The message was, “All GMOs approved by the Authority are safe for human consumption”. This is because rigorous risk assessment is conducted before approval guided by the laid down international standard procedures.++Read More
