Professor Moses Limo

Prof. Moses K. Limo is the current Chair, Research and Technical Sub Committee of the National Biosafety Authority. He is a renowned Professor in Biochemistry and is currently teaching in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Egerton University, Kenya.
Professor Moses Limo
The Professor earned his BSc, MSc and PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Nairobi and he boasts of a vast experience ranging from being a Research Fellow at International Laboratory for Research on Animal Diseases (ILRAD) now ILRI, Kenya to joining the University of California, Davis, U.S.A. as a Postdoctoral Scholar.

Thereafter he proceeded to International Center for Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE) to work as a Research Scientist.  From 1996 he joined Egerton University and became the Founding Chairman of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 1997 until 2004 when he was appointed the Director of Postgraduate School.

He has also served in various academic and research committees/boards  including being member of the Board of African Regional Postgraduate in Insect Sciences and External Examiner in various Universities among others.

Professor Limo chaired Egerton University Research Ethics Committee and has taught courses in molecular biology and biotechnology to undergraduates and postgraduates for many years including being involved in curriculum development.

Actually, he has many years’ experience in Biosafety and Bioethics as applied to health, agriculture and the environment. His research activities and interests focus on the application of modern biotechnology and molecular biological techniques to control parasites and disease vectors that exert a heavy toll in the health of people and animals. By being so active in the publishing industry, scientific conferences, seminars and workshops, the professor seems to stop at nothing but the sky.

The overriding regulatory role of the Authority is to ensure safety of human and animal health and provision of adequate level of protection of environment. Thus the Authority exists to regulate research and commercial activities involving GMOs by establishing transparent science
