The NBA has created a Biosafety Recognition Award Program to identify and celebrate extraordinary individuals who have made significant contributions to help others in the field of Biosafety in Kenya. This Program honors exceptional and inspiring individuals who have made a difference in promoting Biosafety, serves as role models and contributes to food security, the fight against infectious diseases, environmental, animal and public health protection.
Awards will be awarded to three (3) individuals and one (1) Group that has excelled in ANY of the following areas:
Medical, laboratory , research and public health
Agriculture, environment , plant and animal Biosafety
Facilities and Maintenance
Advocacy and regulations
Advocacy group or Association(s)
Awards are given at the 2nd Annual Biosafety Conference.
Selection criteria:
Nominees are selected on their uniqueness, the specific accomplishments he or she has achieved that are truly remarkable, and the impact their work has had on others.
Specific activities that might qualify a nominee include (but are not restricted to):
o Raising awareness of Biosafety among scientists, policymakers, donors, or the public
o Demonstrating a commitment to promoting the growth of Biosafety in their institutions, in the country or region
o Outstanding concern for the welfare of others, which has led to an improvement in the protection of individuals, animals and environment exposed to biohazards
o Developing new, or improving existing, procedures that resulted in significant improvement in work methods that have had positive outcomes
o Consistently sharing their knowledge, skills and abilities with others for the improvement of Biosafety
o Demonstrating a high level of service, dedication, conscientiousness, compassion, and applied skill
o Creating innovative ideas to improve Biosafety
o Establishing a culture of Biosafety where it did not formerly exist
o Promoting sustainable, efficient Biosafety solutions
o Improving Biosafety at a facility
o Promoting responsible conduct of sciences or dual use research and ethics
Preference is given to individuals who operate in an environment where Biosafety funds are limited, and/or where the importance of Biosafety is not fully appreciated.
o Have not yet been recognized with other Biosafety awards.
Nominations are welcome for people at all stages in their careers.
Selection mechanism:
1. Nominations can be made by anyone by filing the nomination form. 2. The deadline for nominations is August 2, 2013
3. Staff from National Biosafety Authority and the NBA Board do not qualify for this Award
4. Awards to be presented during the 2ndNational Biosafety Conference in Nairobi on August 9, 2013
5. Winners will be chosen by a selection committee based on the criteria outlined above.
