The National Biosafety Authority (NBA) Board and Management are undertaking a three-day Competency and Capacity-Building Workshop in Mombasa, aimed at strengthening institutional leadership, corporate governance, Board effectiveness and management capacity to enhance the Authority’s delivery of its biosafety regulatory mandate and strategic objectives.
The workshop has brought together the Board and Management to deliberate on key institutional priorities, including securing public trust and shaping the future of NBA, the role of the Board and its organs, institutional branding, and positioning the Authority to support emerging developments in agricultural and livestock biotechnology. Participants are also exploring the current status and emerging opportunities of biotechnology in Kenya’s livestock sector.
Speaking during the workshop, Board Member Mr. Asteri Angolo, who chaired the day’s session, underscored the importance of the training, noting that it would go a long way in strengthening the capacity of Board members to provide effective strategic leadership and oversight. NBA Acting Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Ann Karimi, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that the workshop would enhance institutional capacity in developing high-performing teams, leading and sustaining organizational change, and promoting ethical leadership, good governance and organizational integrity.
Mr. Nicholas Awiti from the Executive Office of the President and Mr. Simon Indimuli, Secretary to the State Corporations Advisory Committee (SCAC), facilitated sessions on various aspects of institutional governance, including the role of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles in strengthening boardroom accountability and promoting sustainable institutional practices.
The workshop is expected to further enhance the Board and Management’s capacity to steer the Authority towards greater institutional effectiveness, accountability and excellence in the execution of its mandate.
